DVD ripping with Visual Hub

We've had some problems ripping DVD video content with Handbrake lately. The newest versions of Handbrake haven't been able to access the "source" menu for DVDs. However, while working in Visual Hub, users can drag and drop the DVD icon from the desktop to the Visual Hub batch file list. Then select "DV" and check "ready for Final Cut" for further editing. The footage will rip in DV quality and shouldn't need rendering in Final Cut. Fun times! -DAL

Ann Ferren DVD pick up

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know that I have created DVDs for all of the Ann Ferren video participants and they have been instructed to pick them up from the manager on our duty in our lab. You'll see a stack on the desk with the remaining names. Please cross out the names of those you give out. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Printers

Hey guys and gals, if you're working the night shift and closing, please remember to shut off the printers before you leave. I'm not exactly sure what it does to them being on all the time, but it's probably not good. Thanks!

After Effects + Quicktime 7.4 = :(

We don't get a ton of After Effects users but this is pretty valuable info. If you're having any problems with After Effects exports, just check which version of Quicktime you have on the machine. If it's the evil 7.4 you may want to run an update.

Missing Drive

One of our patrons that was using NMC 2.0 has lost her Western Digital My Book firewire drive, in a black plastic case. The last time she was in was Wednesday. Please keep your eyes peeled for it. Thanks!

More mac checkout updates

So in the effort for expediency, for every professor and class who has used the macs from the laptop cart this semester, a form has been created with the student names and ID#'s.

There are forms for classes taught by Professors ASSENOV, MENKE-FISH, VIERA-KING, RICHARDSON and HOWARD.

Because some of the signatures were completely illegible, there is only the student ID# in the slot. Please make sure that the student initials next to their name or sign it after they have been handed the mac.

Hope this helps everyone!

Checking Out Laptops Made Easier!

For those lovely NMC individuals who work on Monday and Thursday mornings, Kelly and I have created a roster for computer sign out ease. They are clipped to the top of the account log, however I would recommend making a new home for them where they are not like to fall off and wander away into the darkness beneath the desk. Perhaps someone could make another tab in the book of sign outs for these sheets, so we can keep better track of them. The sign out itself looks rather spiffy now with all the names already written there in easy to read font. Perhaps there are other classes we could do this for such as Menke-Fish's class on Tuesday's and Friday's as I think she plans to use the computers every class. If anyone can obtain a roster from her that would be delightful!

Also, as a reminder to those who check out computers to classes for the first time. Please please please have each student sign liability forms! Last time Howard's class had the computers they only did the general roster check out. We have them all now (though there were 3 people from the class missing so watch for them next class!) make sure that we are doing this for all of them and that the students know what we are talking about.

Equipment check-out reminder

Hey all,
Please make sure that the forms for the specific pieces of equipment, like DV1 or DR2, get filled out in the white book before the person leaves the NMC. It's another check that we have to track the whereabouts of the equipment.
Thanks!
