Reserving Equipment!

Hey guys!
I know that sometimes we slap a reservation into iCal without filling out the details...BUT it's mucho importante! to pay attention to when the person is planning on returning the equipment. For instance Customer A checked out a camera today and the due back time was set for an hour later (suspicious!) and the same camera was reserved for customer B tonight.

Please just make sure all the cameras appear on the iCal when you are scheduling reservations to get a better feel for when things are available and so forth.

Thanks!!!

When you help someone (ANYONE), please take the time to fill out the CTE Survey Monkey. We use these surveys to track data relating to our customer outreach and training. This is important. *Also, CTE tracks your names, so we know who's helping people the most.

Issues with Compressor Export in FCP

Several customers have reported problems trying to export a sequence in FCP using Compressor. An error message will appear stating "File Error: A file of this name already exists." If you click OK, Compressor will still open with the sequence in the Batch, but the Batch will fail if it's submitted. The issue is caused by the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect running on all of the lab machines. If you need to export using Compressor, here's what you should do:

1. Save the project in FCP.
2. Go to the Finder Toolbar and click the Norton AntiVirus icon. Choose Norton AntiVirus -> Disable Auto-Protect.
3. If you're prompted to authenticate, enter the admin name and password. Click OK.
4. In FCP, Choose File -> Export Using Compressor.

Further information can be found here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303261

Once the sequence is done compressing in Compressor, remember to re-enable the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect. It's very important to have virus protection running as much as possible to prevent any viruses from damaging software on the machines.

Print Double-Sided on the B&W Printer

I've gotten several questions this week from students asking if our printers do double-sided printing. The answer is YES! The black & white printer does do double-sided printing without having to feed the pages manually. Here's how you set that up:

In whatever program you're using, click print
Select the "NMC B&W Printer"
In the lower pulldown box, which defaults to "Copies & Pages", select "Layout"
In the Layout box, you will see an option for "Two-Sided", which is set to off. Select either Long-Edge Binding (book style) or Short-Edge Binding (tablet-style)
In that dialogue box, you can also choose how many pages you want printed per sheet as well as the layout direction.

THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP!!!!

Starts Friday, September 22 at the Bethesda Row Cinema
and E Street Cinema

Stephane Miroux (Gael GarcĂa Bernal) is an eccentric young man whose dreams constantly invade his waking life. While slumbering, he is the charismatic host of Stephane TV, expounding on "The Science of Sleep" in front of cardboard cameras. In "real life," he has a boring job at a Parisian calendar publisher and pines for Stephanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg), the girl in the apartment across the hall. Unable to find the secret to Stephanie's heart while awake, Stephane searches for the answer in his dreams. A playful romantic fantasy written and directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

SO! I think we should go to see it as a group! Anyone interested in a field trip? We can make it a night time field trip? maybe a friday night?
