New YouTube Ripper

In our efforts to continue helping customers rip videos from the web, I've found another source that seems to be pretty stable for ripping youtube videos to mp4 (which import directly into iMovie). Sweet, right?

Zamzar and friends

As some of you may or may not know, vixy.net went down. Also, we've had some trouble with ripzor and download helper.

However, Zamzar still appears to be working consistently. If any of the sociology students come in asking for help, direct them to zamzar first.

Image Capture: a good solution for still cameras in NMC

When transferring media from digital still cameras in NMC, I have found it easier to use the customer's camera and the application Image Capture than struggle with the card reader at times. I have found that most consumer cameras (canon, sony, kodak) are compatible with this simple application. It is in the applications folder and really easy to use.

1. Plug-in camera/device
2. Open Image Capture
3. Select "Download To" option (ie. set your destination with the top drop down)
3. Select "Download Some" option unless you want to pull everything from the card.
4. Expand window as needed.
5. Select images/movies for download. Use shift/apple click to select multiple items.
6. Download!
